The Brethren community has resurrected a bid to build a church on the corner of Kerr Road and Shepherd Street after the proposal including a 6am Sunday service were withdrawn in 2017 in response to resident concerns.
The early morning Sunday service remains as part of the re-submitted development application for the church with an accompanying boundary adjustment.
Funerals, weddings or baptisms will not take place at the proposed Thurgoona location and will be conducted at another Brethren church in Albury.
The development has been referred to a community forum owing to significant community interest and issues raised.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the community forum will be conducted online.
In an attempt to placate residents, the church is being moved away from the Shepherd Court entrance and setback from Kerr Road.
Twenty-three submissions including a petition were lodged objecting to the proposal with issues raised including traffic and pedestrian safety; presentation of the site, loss of property value and amenity impacts from hours of use.
