Ourzacracker breaks maiden at Bendigo for Wangaratta's Chris Davis

Teo Nugent took the promising three-year-old to the front from the outside barrier and was never headed to break through for victory in its ninth start.

The Dan McCarthy-trained Madam Etak finished third.

Davis was thrilled with the performance.

"Teo rode him extremely well from barrier 12 we ended up jumping from," Davis told Racing.com.

"The plan was always to be on the money. We thought that George Osborne's horse (Tai Shan) would go and lead and we'd sit behind it, but that wasn't the case.

"Teo showed a lot of initiative and he was a lure virtually and they couldn't catch him.

"We'll aim for something in town next I suspect."

Ourzacracker had finished second on three previous occasions and was fourth at Flemington over summer before being freshened up for its return at Swan Hill last Sunday.

Davis' other runner on the day, Symphony Rose, finished seventh in race two (1400m) in its fourth attempt at breaking the maiden.

The Wangaratta horseman will contest another maiden (2100m) at Echuca today with Vlamingh.

Meanwhile, after a narrow defeat in the Wagga Gold Cup, Albury jockey Brodie Loy piloted a winner at the Sapphire Coast yesterday with Endymion for Moruya trainer John Marzol.

The Mitch Beer-trained Hanger finished sixth in the TAB Handicap (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
