But before you rush out into the real world, have you downloaded the COVIDSafe app?
The government rolled out the COVIDSafe app to help stop new outbreaks and avoid a second wave of infections that could lead to more deaths and a return to full lockdown.
Some people have questioned the privacy and security of the app but digital privacy expert Sacha Molitorisz did his research and has backed it because "the government has done a pretty good job with this app".
The former journalist is based at the Centre for Media Transition, University of Technology Sydney and has been a fierce critic of the government's privacy protections over the last few years, including a new book on the subject.
"The government has taken serious misteps in regards to privacy in the past. They don't have good form," Mr Molitorisz said.
"But for this specific app they have put the discussion out there and that's what we need to do.
"I was pretty confident that the privacy protections put in place were adequate."
He said privacy is important but you have to strike the right balance between an issue or threat and the intrusion on privacy.
"It needs to be balanced and the COVIDSafe app is a good example of where the health threat is significant and the intrusion on privacy isn't a big one.
"It seems like the balance is good, so let's strike this balance more often.
"In Australia we just don't have legal protections that are adequate so I hope this spurs the reforms that protect privacy in the way it should be."
More than 5.7 million Australians have downloaded the app so far but that is still short of the government's target of 40%.
After Mr Molitorisz decided to download the app he hit a problem but it was wasn't because of the app.
"I tried to download it but my phone storage was full and it wouldn't let me," he said.
He said he needed to spend 10 minutes to clear space.
COVIDSafe doesn't require much storage but if your phone is already full you will need to delete something to create space.
If you have other issues with downloading the app visit the government's advice page for help or call the helpline on 1800 020 080.
