An additional firewood collection area has opened in the Nariel Valley for residents to cut and collect firewood as part of the Victorian government's bushfire recovery program.
The collection site is located at the intersection of Red Stringy Track and Benambra-Corryong Road, Nariel Valley and is being managed by VicForest staff.
Forest Fire Management Victoria Upper Murray district manager Dave Jenson said staff and contractors have worked hard over the past few weeks to salvage felled trees from the major roading project.
"We hope this additional firewood collection area will make it easier for the people living in Towong Shire to collect firewood for next winter," he said.
"When collecting, people must only collect firewood from designated areas and stay within collection limits, which are a maximum of two cubic metres per person per day and a maximum of 16 cubic metres per household per year.
"The felling of trees for firewood is strictly prohibited.
"The majority of the designated firewood collection areas near Walwa and the Nariel Valley were impacted by the fires, so it's great to be able to make this wood available."

If people need to collect firewood, they should follow social distancing requirements by staying at least 1.5 metres away from anyone else while collecting.
