NSW and Victoria governments have eased coronavirus restrictions with the first step towards a restart of community sport allowing non-contact training of a maximum of 10 people.
The AFL is set to announce this week its plans as to when it will restart the season as well as its recommendations for country leagues across the nation.
AFL NEB general manger John O'Donohue said he expects to have a clearer picture as to what a return to playing may look like for country leagues by the end of the week.
"On the back of today's state government announcement around easing some restrictions, AFL Victoria's position around training is that no sanctioned training should take place until further notice," O'Donohue said.
"AFL Victoria will seek clarity from the state government around what today's announcement means for community football.
"A number of considerations around health and safety protocols and insurance need to be worked through prior to any training being sanctioned.
"AFL Victoria will provide a return to play protocol for community leagues and clubs once it is approved by the state government."

O&M general manager Sean Barrett said the league will hold a board meeting tomorrow night before meeting with delegates from clubs on Thursday night.
"We pushed our board meeting back from Monday night to Wednesday night and hopefully we will have a bit more information from the AFL by then," Barrett said.
"We will catch up with the clubs on Thursday night and inform them if anything has changed.
"Our clubs will follow the rules that are put in place by the government and the health advisers.
"We won't be doing anything that is outside of what is being recommended by them."
Clubs were presented with three alternative start dates for the season in March.
The three proposed start dates were June 27, July 25 and August 8 with the league reluctant to stage its grand final past late October.
All three proposals comprise nine rounds with the finals series shortened if the season starts after June 27.
