Justin Clancy and Bill Tilley have been stunned at the station switch and are officially relaying their concern to 2AY's owner Ace Radio.

"I've written to ACE Radio today asking them to reconsider their position," Mr Tilley said on Tuesday.

"I've simply said that people have grown up and grown old with 2AY.

"It is a trusted source of local news, it adds to the strength and diversity of local media and the current morning program plays a huge role in that."

Ace chief executive Mark Taylor said breakfast hosts Kylie King and Kev Poulton would be moved into the early afternoon slot in coming weeks to provide talk programming across the day.

They will be replaced by Warrnambool pair Sean Cullen and Kate Meade, whose networked breakfast show is already on Ace stations in Wangaratta and Deniliquin.

Mr Tilley, who appeared on the 2AY breakfast show on Tuesday, told The Border Mail the move snubbed locals.

"It's not rocket science that if you have a program with a loyal local listenership, one that connects and has history with its audience and has its finger on the pulse of local news then you are going to have a greater audience than you would with a program coming from 550 kilometres away on the coast," he said.

Mr Clancy, who plans to write to Ace, expressed similar sentiments.

"Whenever things get outsourced away from your local community that's always a concern or a sadness," Mr Clancy said.

"The importance of that was demonstrated during the bushfires where all the media, not just Kylie and Kev, did a fantastic job."

Mr Clancy, like Mr Tilley, has had a regular segment on the breakfast show and brought NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian into the studio for an interview last October.

Border Mail readers on Tuesday indicated they would switch to community and commercial FM radio stations in response to the shift.
