It was a comment that struck a chord because this is the final newsletter I'll bring you as editor of The Border Mail, a position only 13 other people have held in the masthead's 117-year history.
That's a lot of years and not many editors.
The past three-and-a-half years in the chair have been a dream come true a young bloke who grew up reading the newspaper on the farm at Rand.
Funnily enough, I started at The Border Mail in November, 2001, just a couple of weeks after the other subject of Shana Morgan's weekend feature took over as the Member for Farrer, Sussan Ley.
Just as Ms Ley told us this week that her role had "changed substantially", so has the way The Border Mail delivers news in the past 19 years.
Where the internet was once an afterthought, it's now at the forefront of our thinking and our ability to deliver breaking news to your inboxes and online, as it happens, has required dramatic changes in the way our newsroom operates.
But as much as things have changed in the past two decades, the thing that hasn't is The Border Mail's commitment to you, our readers.
The way we deliver news might be different but our passion for our communities and our willingness to provide a voice who wouldn't otherwise have one remains as strong as ever.
I want to thank everyone who's trusted us to tell their stories over the years and I want to thank you for supporting the journalism that supports your community.
Stay safe, and stay well.
