The works to get under way between Coral Bank and Tawonga are part of a jointly funded $8 million federal and Victorian government investment.
This project involves upgrading the road link between Wodonga and the Falls Creek alpine resort, via Mount Beauty.

Road shoulder sealing of the 11 kilometre stretch beginning south of Dederang to Tawonga would reduce the severity of run-off road crashes in the area.
Intersection works to improve sight distance and traffic flow and provide safer turning opportunities will also take place.
These will be at the highway intersection with Kergunyah Road, followed by Boyd Road near Gundowring.
The latest works follow initial improvements valued at a total of $3.5 million south of Wodonga that were completed last year when it had been flagged that stage two would start late last year.
Federal Infrastructure Minister Michael McCormack said the safety improvements would strengthen vital regional connections in the North East.
"Now more than ever it's critical we keep our supply lines open, including this strategic link to Kiewa Valley producers," Mr McCormack said.
Victorian Roads and Road Safety Minister Jaala Pulford said the upgrades to this stretch of the Kiewa Valley Highway would boost safety for drivers and industry who traveled on this route.
"We're upgrading the Kiewa Valley Highway to make sure it's safer for the drivers and freight that rely on it every day," she said.
The Kiewa Valley is a high volume dairy and beef cattle area.
