Tripp replaces Bart Campbell at the helm after he decided to step down following seven years in the position.
He was also announced as chairman of the Storm Group's Super Netball franchise, Sunshine Coast Lightning, last week.
"We have a great team - on and off the field - and I'm honoured to be able to work with some of the most passionate and committed people at this club," Tripp said.
"I can't wait to help both Storm and Lightning continue on the path of success and to give our fans something to look forward to, not just when Cameron (Smith) and the team start playing on May 30 but also when our members and fans come back to AAMI Park to watch."
Campbell said the transition would ensure there was no disruption to the planning for Storm's recovery from the impact of COVID-19.
"Matt knows our club intimately and has been unwavering in his support for our players, staff, members and commercial partners," Campbell said.
