Racing NSW offered the club the choice of racing on either Melbourne Cup day or Boxing Day this year.
Despite only attracting an average crowd of 500 for its inaugural Boxing Day meeting last year, the club believes the festive holiday has the most potential for growth.
"From a strictly financial viewpoint, Boxing Day has the most potential," club chief executive officer Steve Hetherton said.
"Although crowd-wise we didn't do as well as we would have hoped last year, the fact that it was almost 40 degrees didn't help our cause.
"The Melbourne Cup day crowd is limited now because most people on the Border have to work and have Wodonga Cup day off in lieu of the public holiday.
"On the other hand Boxing Day is a public holiday and has great potential.
"Given this year's announcement is months ahead of last year's we hope that patrons have much more time to plan a great day out at Albury Racing Club.
"We will keep on trialling a few different things and being the inaugural meeting last year we believe the day should be given another opportunity."
