The driver of a road train contacted police after the silver sedan zipped around him, ignoring the double unbroken lines, on the Kidman Way north of Darlington Point at 2.35pm on May 11.

The silver Nissan Maxima passed the northbound 35-metre rig just past the intersection with Murrumbidgee River Road.

"The truck driver believed it was unsafe to overtake at that point of time due to the double unbroken lines," police said.

After receiving the dashcam video, police from Griffith Highway Patrol went to the home of the vehicle's registered owner on May 29.

A 41-year-old man nominated himself as the driver of the car at the time, police said.

"I'm sorry. I know it was illegal. Maybe I was just tired from working at the farm and wanted to get home," police said they were told after questioning the man over the matter.

The driver has been fined $344 and three demerit points for not keeping left of the dividing line.
