Central Wodonga came to a standstill on Wednesday to honour Dr John Moran, who died suddenly last weekend.

His funeral will be held at Korumburra on Friday, but his wife Pam, children and their families were joined in a procession, which included the hearse carrying his coffin and police officers forming a guard of honour in High Street.
Dr Moran was recognised only last year by Victoria Police for 30 years service in the role of police medical officer as well as assisting the forensics team.
Inspector Paul Hargreaves said police had contacted Dr Moran's family seeking to honour him locally given his funeral was not going to be held in Wodonga and attendance restrictions still in place due to COVID-19.
"It has been a significant contribution to the community he has made," Inspector Hargreaves said.
"The police medical officer role is quite a hard role to fill because it is demanding and unpredictable.
"But as John said when we recognised his 30 years in the role it was rewarding and you were supporting the community.
"When he is supporting community he is also supporting us and while that can be in circumstances which are not often great, it certainly gives us and the person he is treating a lot of peace of mind that someone like him was available."
In addition to his GP position, Dr Moran was a highly respected community member as a former chairman and board member of the Wodonga Regional Health Service before serving for six years on the cross-border Albury Wodonga Health board of management.
He also lobbied governments hard for improved medical services in his hometown and was also the chief medical officer at Winton Raceway for 20 years.
