YARRAWONGA'S return to the federal electorate of Indi is emerging as a strong possibility with another redistribution to be confirmed early next month.

Victoria's surging population, particularly in Melbourne, will lead to a further seat being created in the state.
"The statistics confirm that Victoria will gain a 39th seat in the House of Representatives," Mr Green said.
"Redistributing Victoria will also produce major boundary changes, though for different reasons (compared to Western Australia).
"Victoria was redistributed only three years ago, so there are no obvious hot spots where a new electorate can be carved from others.
"Rather, boundaries will start being drawn from the rural corners of the state.
"But fitting in a new electorate will produce much more extensive changes than were caused by the 2017-18 redistribution."
Indi stretches from the Upper Murray to the outskirts of Melbourne with towns such as Kinglake and Marysville being more recent additions, but could be potential targets to be included in a newly created seat.
In the most recent redistribution, Euroa and Violet Town returned to Indi from the neighbouring seat of Nicholls, which was formerly known at Murray.
Euroa moved into Murray in the lead-up to the 2010 election when the seat was retained by Liberal Sharman Stone.
Yarrawonga switched from Indi to Murray in the early 2000s with Nicholls presently held by the Nationals' Damian Drum.
Submissions calling for Yarrawonga to return to Indi were made during the most recent distribution with the Murray River town sharing significant community of interest with Wangaratta, Benalla and Wodonga.
Indi is one of the most marginal electorates in Australia with Helen Haines succeeding another independent Cathy McGowan, who won the seat from the Liberals in 2013 and was MP for six years.
Dr Haines declined to comment on the pending redistribution.
Meanwhile, the Liberal Party is expected to re-visit its preselection timetable for seats including Indi which was put on hold due to COVID-19.
On the original timeline, the Indi preselection was due to be held in August with a candidate on the ground before Christmas.
Wodonga-based Liberal candidate Steve Martin polled more primary votes than Dr Haines at last year's election, but lost on preferences.
