JOCKEY Brodie Loy has five rides at Wagga on Monday after a short layoff.
Loy decided to takes two weeks off riding to physically and mentally refresh ahead of the spring carnival.
"I just thought it was a good time to have a bit of a break and focus on building a bit of momentum ahead of the new season," Loy said.
"It will only be two weeks because I'm booked for a few rides at Wagga on Monday.
"Mainly the break was to give the body a bit of rest from all the travelling and wasting before meetings.
"I didn't want to take too long off because it doesn't take much for me to put weight back on when I'm not riding.
"But I feel the break has put me in really good stead to go as hard as I can for the next six months."

Loy returned from an 18-month suspension in August and has enjoyed the best season of his career.
The talented hoop has notched 73 winners to easily eclipse his previous best of 58.
"I haven't been doing much in my time off other than relaxing," he said.
"I've been drinking a heap of water because sitting in a sauna or hot spa to lose weight before each meeting takes a toll on your body.
"It's nearly been 12 months since I have been back riding after my suspension and I'm proud in what I've been able to achieve this season.
"I'm booked for a city ride on July 18 which I hope will be a springboard for more opportunities."
Loy said he had recently swapped jockey managers and was now under the care of Hayden Kelly who also manages Blaike McDougall.
