Myrtleford's Hugh Wales another Ovens and Murray star on the move

Wales has lodged a clearance to Coolamon for the 2020 season and could have another two Saints teammates join him.

Malachi Owers has also signalled his intentions to cross to the Hoppers, while Lachie Dale has been in talks with the club.

Wales had a connection to Coolamon through former Werribee teammate Joe Redfern, but said the offer to play there came out of the blue.

"I never really had any intention of playing, but a couple of them sent me a message and I thought 'why not'," Wales said.

"I've talked to 'Sharpy' (Myrtleford coach Jake Sharp) and Dawson (Simpson) and everyone else I've needed to speak to down here and I'm meeting with Coolamon on Monday.

"They've been pretty clear on what they expect of me, so it should be good fun."

It will be a new experience for Wales having never played in a league outside of Victoria.

"I've only really heard of Wagga Tigers and Coolamon through Joe (Redfern), I don't know much about the league at all to be honest," Wales said.

"I'm looking forward to playing in a different part of the world and meeting a few different people.

"They've been pretty clear to us if it gets too much and we can't commit for a week, we're all well and good not to play that week or call it quits.

"Malachi Owers knows someone up there and they got onto him and Lachie Dale as well, but I'm not too sure if those boys have said yes or not.

"It will be good if they do and it will obviously make the travel a bit easier going up with two Myrt boys."

Wales admitted motivation had been lacking with the Ovens and Murray season looking less and less likely, but he plans to use the stint at Coolamon as a springboard for the 2021 campaign with the Saints.
