Murrumbidgee Local Health District infectious diseases specialist Tim Gilbey said one of the cases had contracted the virus upon a visit to Melbourne and the other positive case was a member of the same household.
"We have one case who had clear exposure to one of the areas in Melbourne that we know has elevated numbers of cases," he said.
"The actual degree of contact within that area was minimal and transient actually; just a train ride, taxi ride, even whilst wearing a mask and maintaining precautions that way. It speaks of the need to remain vigilant."
Asked if those people who tested positive had travelled in the Albury-Wodonga and wider region after visiting Melbourne, Dr Gilbey said there "wasn't a great deal of exposure".
"There was some travel through the area over a 24-48 hour period only, and not a lot of particular contact," he said.
"At the moment we're following those cases in terms of contact tracing, and isolation has been instigated.
"There are approximately four people who are isolating as a result of that exposure and those cases.
"There hasn't been a great deal of exposure to the Lavington-Albury community at this stage."
IN OTHER NEWS:
The Border Mail is still trying to ascertain whether the active case listed for the Wodonga LGA by the Department of Health and Human Services is a person currently on the border.
It is unclear whether the person who tested positive listed Wodonga as their residential address and is currently self-isolating in Melbourne, or not.
