Albury City may not get Wagga wish on eve of season restart

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian yesterday advised residents living in border towns not to travel outside their communities at this point in time in an attempt to limit the spread of COVID-19 from Victoria.

Albury City was due to play Tolland in the opening round of the season in Wagga on Sunday, but it won't go ahead with both sides agreeing to deem the result a draw.

"We've been in contact with the Wagga association to see what we can do," Albury City coach Ricky Piltz said.

"At the moment, it's probably 50-50. It's all up in the air.

"As soon as we cross one bridge, more bridges get put in front of us."

Despite the new challenge, Piltz said the playing group is desperate to play and will do everything possible.

"I've still got total support from they players and they're all volunteering to take COVID tests to prove it," Piltz said.

"The committee is pushing for it and we're doing everything we can."

It is understood some Pascoe Cup coaches have raised concerns with Albury City playing matches in their towns.
