The first 50 photographs that form part of a new project are now available to view on the Victorian Collections website.
They are in an album containing streetscape images from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Photographs have been scanned and catalogued by museum staff over the past few months, before being released on the website.
When the project is eventually finished, the site will contain digitalised versions of 30,000 objects and 2500 historic photographs that document the heritage of Beechworth and Indigo Shire.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Next on the list will be ornithological and family history collections.
The availability of digital history comes just after Melbourne has gone into lockdown, preventing many potential visitors from attending Beechworth and other tourists areas.
Burke Museum will be one of the tourist locations to ask for identification before people are allowed to enter, to ensure they do not come from a lockdown area.
Those from the North East and other regional areas will still be allowed to visit.
This has been done on the advice of Victoria's Department of Health and Human Services.
