Police will test the weapon for fingerprints and DNA as Daniel Morton contests firearms charges.
The Wodonga Magistrates Court heard he had allegedly gone to the home in the early hours of June 20 with the weapon, and that police later attended and seized the firearm.
A witness has been reluctant to make a statement.

The court heard it could take six months for tests on the weapon to be completed.
Magistrate Ian Watkins said such a delay was not unacceptable given how serious the charges were.
He refused Morton's bail application.
The matter will return to the court on August 26 for a special mention, ahead of a hearing on September 10.
