Despite jumping from the second-widest barrier in the 12 horse field, Lawrence pounced on the early lead on the Peter Maher-trained galloper.
Once in front, Lawrence rated Flying Cyril ($26) to perfection.
The son of Keep The Faith had half-a-length to spare at the finish over the unlucky Dash To The Bar ($5).
Pips 'n' Crowns ($11) was a further half-a-length back in third.
Maher said he thought Flying Cyril may have been one run short of his best being second-up from a spell.
"I thought he might of needed one more run but the horse went super," Maher said.
"Mikaela rode him a treat and the horse was good enough to get the job done.
"It was daring tactics to look for the front but that's the best way to ride the horse.
"From the gate we just had to roll the dice and try to get across to the fence first.
"Mikaela was able to pinch a couple of cheap sectionals mid-race and the horse was able to give a good kick at the finish."
Maher said Lawrence's 3kg claim also proved to be a big advantage.
"Claiming 3kg always helps because the horse still had to carry 59kg," he said.

Flying Cyril finished midfield at Wagga when resuming from a 36-week spell last month on a heavy track.
The six-year-old gelding has proven to be a handy performer for Maher with seven career wins.
"He has been a really handy horse and that was his seventh win," he said.
"He has won over $100,000 in prizemoney and if all the horses in your stable could do that, you would be happy.
"That was only his second start this preparation so he will have a few more starts and hopefully be able to pinch another race or two."
Maher was the only local trainer to notch a winner at the meeting.
Meanwhile Wangaratta trainer Andrew Dale made the eight hour trek to Donald on Saturday worth his while.
Dale made the eight hour round trip with four runners with Volere taking out the $20,000 0-58 Hcp, (1200m).
Ridden by Zac Spain, Volere ($11) overcame a tough run when forced to race outside the leader.
Despite the torrid run, Volere proved too strong over the concluding stages to score by almost half-a-length.
It was the four-year-old mare's first win the preparation and second of her 17-start career.
Wodonga and District Turf Club will hold its next meeting on Monday, August 3.
