Wodonga's Luke Runciman, 18, cycled from Wodonga to Wangaratta and back on Monday, before stage three restrictions came into effect, completing 180 kilometres in about four hours, 45 minutes.
Luke said a late change of route made necessary by the border closure created a longer but more scenic ride.
"The sweeping hills around Wooragee, Beechworth, Everton Upper and Tarrawingee were, from a cycling perspective, absolutely amazing," he said.
"There was a section just out of Beechworth where I discovered an encouraging surge of energy, I looked down at my bike computer on the bars and saw I was doing 55km/h up a steady incline, I was really stoked.
"I knew my training had set me up well for the day and the times I achieved overall are ones I'm very pleased with."

"The ride went absolutely brilliantly," he said.
Ride4Kids Albury-Wodonga took place just before Luke, school captain at Wodonga Senior Secondary College, resumed remote learning as part of the new Victorian restrictions.
"It's unfortunate the last day before the return to virtual classes was the day of Ride4Kids," he said.
"I would've liked to have been there to support anyone who needed it."
