Indi MP Helen Haines has been left "stunned" by the NSW government's decision to tighten critical worker border permits without any consultation.

The decision will result in Albury Wodonga Health doctors based outside the new border region in Victoria not being able to get to work over the weekend.
"This is just shocking. One of the key things I put to the Premier of NSW and the Health Minister of NSW ... I said solving a health crisis should not create a new one, and that's exactly what has happened," Dr Haines told the ABC on Friday.
"I'm deeply disappointed that consultation has not occurred before this public health order was brought into effect."

She said police at border checkpoints also should not be place din the position of turning back doctors.
"The exasperation that I'm healing from senior members of the health service is 'how can this possibly happen?'," she said.
"The ludicrous irony of an infectious diseases doctor not being able to work during a pandemic is just amazing."
