Smith enjoyed a fine run at the top of the order, scoring 448 runs at 44.8 before fracturing his finger in two places against Albury in round 13.
"It was a nice surprise," Smith, who joined the club in 2014-15, said.
"It was disappointing to miss the end of the season."
Luke Restall and Kori Stevenson have won the previous two awards.
Almost 90 people attended St Patrick's presentation night at the Commercial Club on Saturday with Tony Hill being awarded life membership.
Hill, who started playing for the Patties in 1988, joined Kane Arendarcikas, Mark Awburn and Mick Cambey in playing 300 matches for the club this season.
Ben Smith took out the Club Cricketer of the Year, Ben Jones won B grade, Jarrem Toon and Justin Whiting shared the title for St Patrick's Green in C1 and Sam Brown was successful for White.
