Police are investigating an assault on a Benalla pensioner who wasn't wearing a face mask in the town.

Emergency services were called to Bridge Street, near the newsagency, about 1.40pm on Friday.
The 75-year-old man was reportedly punched three to four times before the attacker fled.
Acting Sergeant Steve Jones said the man appeared to have suffered minor injuries.
"He wasn't wearing a mask, but he had an exemption not to wear a mask," he said.
"Someone has taken offence to that.
"He's been punched three or four times to the face, the offender has then taken off.
"He is still outstanding.
"We're investigating to try to identify that person."

Acting Sergeant Jones urged people who saw what occurred to make contact.
"If there are any witnesses, they should come forward to Benalla police," he said.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the victim was assessed at the scene.
He did not require hospitalisation.

North East police have generally been pleased with the number of people following the mandatory mask requirements.
There are a wide range of exemptions to the rules including for medical conditions, particularly with breathing related issues.
People with medical conditions do not need to provide certificates as proof.
