Ben Murphy was flown to The Alfred hospital on Thursday after the incident at the Beechworth Secondary College redevelopment.
Kiewa Sandy Creek has thrown its support behind the GoFundMe site, with coach Adam Mudra confident his player would overcome his injuries.
"It's disappointing this has happened to Ben," he said.
"He's just starting his business and he's just finished or is about to finish building his own house at Tangambalanga, so there's a lot of positives in his life.
"He's a battler and we're well aware he will beat this.
"He's competitive and will take this head on.
"I'm positive this won't beat him and he'll come out the other side."

Mr Murphy has already undergone several surgeries for head injuries sustained in the fall.
His partner, Tess Stow, remains by his side and wrote on social media that he had a long recovery ahead of him.
Individual donations of up to $1000 have been made to support Mr Murphy, who has also played for Wodonga Raiders and Lavington.
Mr Mudra said the number of donations made to the cause showed how respected the injured man was in the community.
"He treats everyone with kindness and care," he said.
"That's why we see it to be so important to repay that for Ben.
"He'd be doing the exact same thing if any of his mates were in the same situation.
"We want to do whatever we can to make life easier for him once he's left the hospital."
