Jessica McLennan died three days after a collision at Lilliput on June 1, 2016.

Her partner, Jarryd Hatton, is a learning support officer at Xavier High School and spoke to students about his experiences this week and late last week.

While his loss at the age of 22 has been devastating, the now 26-year-old is trying to turn the incident into a positive by educating young drivers.

"When you're young, you don't really think about being involved in a car accident or being affected by one.

"I was still really young and it was probably a bit of a slap in the face.

"It showed it can happen to anyone.

"You're not invincible."

The incident has had a major impact on those who knew Jess, a much-loved nurse.

Mr Hatton said talking to the students was the first time he had really opened up to anyone about the crash and its aftermath, which included a court trial.

"I found it quite difficult at times," he said of the speeches.

"I tried to take as much of the emotion out of it as possible and educate the kids on the severity of what can happen if they're not concentrating on the road.

"It was difficult to hold back the emotion but I was trying to educate them as much as possible rather being upset.

"There's definitely nothing wrong with showing your emotions, it probably works quite well.

"But I see this as getting through to the students in an educational way."

Mr Hatton said the loss was something Ms McLennan's loved ones would have to live with for the rest of their lives.

"Not a day goes by when I don't think of her," he said.

"It's just coming to terms with her being gone.

"The key thing for me now is to get out there and be able to talk to kids and educate them.

"I see it as a great opportunity."

The three presentations were held at Xavier, but Mr Hatton hopes to be able to speak at other schools.

The talks were aimed at students at an age where they were getting learner permits before moving onto probationary licences.

He is also looking to undertake presentations on organ donations, with Ms McLennan's passing helping to save five lives.
