Show society president Wal Blezard said administrators had delayed making a decision in the hope the situation would improve, but it was apparent now restrictions made it impossible to hold.
"It's sad, but we're not the only people that are sad as a result of the whole thing, but we've had to face it (can't be held)," Mr Blezard said.
It is the first time the show will not unfold since World War II, when it was abandoned in 1940 when the then showground in Young Street (where The Scots School is now located) was a base for soldiers.
Mr Blezard said show organisers would apply for federal government compensation which was announced on Friday, the day after his committee made the decision to cancel.
Albury will join Wangaratta, Walbundrie, Myrtleford, Rutherglen, Benalla and Yarrawonga in not having a show this spring.
