A Melbourne driver caused a police pursuit at the Corowa border checkpoint overnight after failing to stop for officers.

The 49-year-old approached the Federation Way checkpoint at high speed and failed to stop.
Police pursued the vehicle and stopped it on Honour Avenue about 8.15pm on Wednesday.
The man said he didn't have a permit to enter the state, and couldn't give a reason for leaving his home in Flemington.
He was fined $1000 and ordered to return to Victoria.

Officers also caught a 28-year-old woman at the Wodonga Place checkpoint in Albury a short time later.
The woman had a licence which expired five years ago and an expired border permit.
She applied for a new permit online, but used false information.
The 28-year-old was fined $4000 and given a $581 traffic infringement for driving with an expired licence.
A 50-year-old man was also fined $4000 at Jingellic on Wednesday afternoon.
He couldn't provide a permit and police found he had given false information in a bid to cross.
