And while this year's event will be held virtually across Albury-Wodonga, organisers are hoping to blanket the twin cities in yellow on November 22.
To money is still raised for the cancer centre the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund announced its major fundraising event will be held online this year and are encouraging the community to register and to don the colour yellow on the day.
For the Langbine family, taking part in the walk is simply about ensuring other families like theirs can access treatment at home.
Matt Langbine was just 26 years old when he was diagnosed with myxoid sarcoma in his left thigh and said it was a "relief" he could access treatment in his home town.
"We thought we were going to have to go to Melbourne originally but it was so smooth having all our treatments here," he said.
"The staff were really great, I had 28 treatments in total of radiotherapy, it was one a day on weekdays and then basically just had the weekends off.
"It started out as just a lump we noticed but it turned out it wasn't as little as we first thought, it was a real shock but a relief to be able to have treatment here."
Mr Langbine's wife Jorja said this will be the first year they will walk as a family with their 15-month-old son Tex.
"We just hope everyone can get on board, despite the event being virtual this year," Mrs Langbine said.
"It is a chance for our community to still raise some money for our vital cancer services."
After the opening ceremony is streamed live from Noreuil Park, Albury, participants will be challenged to walk their selected distance anywhere in their community, and share their photos and experiences online.
Trust fund manager Kristy McMahon said the virtual event would allow the Sunshine Walk community to stay connected and "achieve something positive together in these uncertain times".
"The health and safety of our participants, spectators and volunteers is our number one priority, with cancer patients being among the most vulnerable to COVID-19," she said.
"A virtual event will allow everyone to participate in their own socially-distanced walk and to connect with other participants."
