HOTHOUSE Theatre has abandoned its 2020 subscription season amid the coronavirus pandemic.

It cited the border closure, Melbourne stage four lockdown and the restrictions on audience numbers.
HotHouse Theatre general manager Michael Huxley said insurmountable logistics meant they could not stage those shows throughout spring and summer.
"This has not been an easy decision," he said.
"But it is the right choice for these times; it is the way we can all continue to stay safe and ride this pandemic out, for the rest of 2020."

Mr Huxley said subscribers could hold over subscriptions to 2021, donate the value of their tickets or get a refund.
"It has been so heartening, the number of subscribers who wanted to carry forward to 2021," Mr Huxley said.
Mr Huxley said there would be shows at the Butter Factory Theatre next year.
"We won't launch our new season until 2021; we're hoping we'll have some certainty to move forward," he said.
