Triple Winter Olympian Steven Lee is under hospital observation in Melbourne after suffering a stroke at his home at Falls Creek.

The respected alpine skier Lee was airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital on Sunday night and underwent an MRI scan on Wednesday which will help determine his road to recovery.

His daughter, Layla, has been in regular contact and continues to update family, friends and the wider skiing community via social media.
"We had a FaceTime call with him on Monday and did a group mediation and he was responsive to that and seemed to be speaking a lot better than the day before," she said.

"None of his speech or memory should be affected, it's more physically the left side of the body that needs to be dealt with.
"He's in good spirits and giving the thumbs up. He's still very much himself."
Lee represented Australia at the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Winter Olympics and carried the torch for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games to the peak of Mount Hotham.
