The former Yarrawonga champion committed to the Hoppers this week with "unfinished business" a major reason for his decision to shelve retirement plans.
Robert Tait (1983-87 and 1991) holds the club record of six years with Ednie drawing level with Jim Sandral (1965-69) on five.
Laurie Hicks (1970-1973) and Matt Ansell (1992-93 and 1995-96) spent four seasons at the helm.
"I had planned on this year being my last but with everything that has happened with COVID-19 I thought I'd do another year," Ednie said.
"I feel I have unfinished business at Rennie and am looking forward to next year.
"It's a day out for the family particularly with two young boys who love it so it will be good to get out there again."
Ednie guided Rennie to flags in 2017 and 2018 before the Hoppers bowed out of the premiership race in the preliminary final in 2019.
He previously spent three seasons as coach of Yarrawonga.
While Nic O'Bryan and Luke Ednie are doubtful starters and Brendan Fevola is unlikely to be making any cameo appearances, Ednie is pleased with the club's player retention.
"We think we will keep 90 per cent of our list," he said.
"Hopefully we will be able to get a few local kids back as well."
Ovens and Murray veterans Danel Maher and Brad Thompson have indicated they are keen to play on after coronavirus wiped out their 2020 plans.
Rennie president Matt Stephens said Ednie had made a massive impact in his time with the club.
"We're pretty stoked to have him on board again," Stephens said.
"Craig didn't want to let a virus end his football career.
"Hopefully we all get back playing next year."
Berrigan is looming as a major threat next season with coach Ty Russell announcing several big name recruits including Tim McAuley, Will Gorman and James Hazelman.
Rennie hasn't gone totally without football this season with six of its youngsters playing for Jerilderie in Saturday's under-17 grand final against Berrigan at Deniliquin.
The Hoppers' NSW-based players were asked to top up Jerilderie's list to assist with numbers.
"It's been really good for them and will only help as they step into senior football next season," Stephens said.
The side has played seven matches in the four-team competition.
Berrigan and Deni Rovers meet in the under-14s.
