Superintendent Paul Smith said the force was awaiting details on when the border changes would start.
He expects traffic flows will be above the 50,000-plus daily vehicle movements seen when the closure started in July.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"It will make it a lot easier for border residents and is certainly good news for all border residents," he said of Wednesday's announcement.
"But with that, there will be issues with more traffic on the road, more delays at peak times."
He said the recent introduction of a third lane at Wodonga Place would assist, and said it could be opened for use more often if it was needed.
