Man in custody, car seized, after shots fired at three Wodonga homes

Officers arrested a man in his 20s at a Robert Crescent home on Monday.

Footage shows a vehicle travelling around Wodonga and shots fired at the homes, with at least two offenders thought to be involved.

A blue Ford was towed from a property on Wright Court on Monday a short time after a police pursuit on Melrose Drive, in which the car went onto the wrong side of the road.

The drive-by shootings occurred between about 8.30pm on Saturday and 4.50am on Sunday.

Police believe a home on the corner of Wornes Drive and Black Street was targeted first, but the 49-year-old woman who lived there wasn't home.

A Gilbert Street home was targeted next, about 1.50am on Sunday, but the gun appeared to have misfired or the bullet missed.

It was the same property that was targeted by an arsonist last month, with a vehicle set alight in the driveway.

A man was also inside the bedroom of his Georgina Street home with his partner when a bullet narrowly missed him.

The man said he felt the projectile fly pass him after shattering a window before hitting a wall.

The bullet, fired about 4.50am on Sunday, landed a short distance away.

Detective Sergeant Graeme Simpfendorfer said police believed each home was targeted with possible links between each home being investigated.

Residents at each home are known to police and have been reluctant to speak to investigators.

"These shootings are completely unacceptable for us, or for anyone, let alone in a country town," Detective Sergeant Simpfendorfer said.

"The risk to those who are home are clearly life threatening with some serious consequences and penalties in court.

"Someone could have been seriously injured."

Security camera footage at Gilbert Street shows a vehicle travel down the road and loop back.

It stopped briefly before a shot was fired.

Detective Sergeant Simpfendorfer said the car sped off towards Pearce Street.

"We're seeking anyone who has information about this vehicle or its whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers or the Wodonga police," he said.

"We believe the same vehicle is involved in all of these incidents.

"We have a number of cameras that have shown this vehicle in the vicinity of these addresses.

"If you haven't spoken to police and you have cameras near that area, we want to hear from you."

The seized Ford will be forensically examined.

Detective Sergeant Simpfendorfer said any piece of information from the public, no matter how small, could help piece together what occurred at the weekend.

In some of the case, the residents of the home hadn't realised their properties had been targeted.

Some were alerted to the incidents by police.

"Suffice to say the co-operation (with the victims) isn't as good as we would like, but that's their choice," the detective said.

"We treat these matters very seriously.

"Any shootings that are happening will be fully investigated whether we have co-operation or not from the occupiers of these premises.

"We will keep an open mind."

Security camera footage suggests there was a driver and a shooter involved.

Police believe a small calibre firearm was likely used by the gunman.

The weapon is yet to be recovered by police.

Police have ramped up patrols near the scene of the shootings to ease community concerns.

Detective Sergeant Simpfendorfer said police did not believe there was any risk to members of the public.

"We upped our patrols (on Sunday night) in and around those streets that were targeted," he said.

"You will see a heavy police presence around those areas.

"We will investigate this to the very end."

A large number of officers attended multiple homes in Wodonga on Monday as part of the investigation.

"We don't think the public needs to be in fear of a random shooting incident," the detective said.

"What the links are to each of these addresses is still under investigation.

"The occupants are known to police."
