SA Premier Steven Marshall announced the move on Tuesday, saying NSW residents will no longer need to quarantine for 14 days upon entering his state and no permits are required.
With the Victoria-SA border still shut, that means the most direct route for those driving from Albury to Adelaide is a largely dirt road from Wentworth to Renmark.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Wentworth Council general manager Ken Ross warned motorists to check his shire's website to ensure the road is open because it can be closed in wet weather due to deterioration.
"Due to the conditions be very mindful of safety, it's not a highway," Mr Ross said.
"If a vehicle is going one way and you're going another way you're going to run into a dust cloud.
"It's not restricted to four-wheel drives but it's a gravel surface and with no moisture it will lead to deterioration."
The only sealed road crossing from NSW to SA runs from Broken Hill.
