A Wangaratta police officer has been stood down on full pay as part of an investigation into stalking allegations.

The sergeant, who works as a prosecutor in the magistrates court, was stood down from his role on Monday.
The officer, who has worked in the role for a lengthy period and was an acting senior sergeant, is being investigated as part of Taskforce Salus.
The strikeforce was established to investigate serious sexual harassment, discrimination, and sexual predatory behaviour allegations against serving and former police.

Sergeant Anita Brens said the officer hadn't been charged and investigations into the case continued.
"A sergeant from a specialist department has been suspended following a Taskforce Salus investigation into allegations of stalking," she said.
"As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further.
"The member is suspended with pay."
