Two men forced their way inside the Vincent Road home near Younger Street about 6am on Wednesday.
Detective Neal Thompson the 20-year-old victim was assaulted and the pair stole her handbag and mobile phone.
"She was taken to North East Health via ambulance," he said.
"She had injuries to the face.
"The two men have been seen to flee the premises and we'd be looking for any witnesses to come forward."

The pair left in a grey or silver sedan.
They remain wanted.
"It doesn't appear to have been targeted," Detective Thompson said of the incident.
"There's no indication that they knew the lady.
"The level of violence in this incident is of concern."
The victim wasn't seriously injured.
