Speaking at a joint press conference on Friday morning with Victorian and NSW Police, Mr Clancy said no date had been set by the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to lift the closed border separating Albury from Wodonga.
"I'd like to see the border be lifted, we're pushing that conversation," he said.
"The Premier has reiterated her view that she doesn't want the border to be there for one day longer than necessary."
But when quizzed on Albury mayor Kevin Mack's suggestion the NSW government would remove the checkpoint by "mid to late October", Mr Clancy said it was "difficult" to confirm a date.
"I am continuing to make sure it is at the front of mind for the decision makers in Sydney," he said.
