The 22-year-old coached Greta in Wangaratta and District last summer and, like so many youngsters in leadership positions, struggled to maintain his own form.
"I was worrying about outside influences," he admitted.
"I've always had that team first approach and always will, but I'm someone that needs to train at intensity to get the best out of myself and I feel at New City, I'm going to be able to do that."
Club officials are delighted to have another top-order batsman after finishing with the wooden spoon last season.
"Cam works hard on his cricket and takes it seriously and having come from the captaincy role, he's looking to really focus on his play," president Chris Green said.
