Mellington kicked 130 goals for Echuca United in 2019 and shapes as a key player as Price attempts to lead the club back up the ladder.
The star full-forward will carry only one point after playing in a third grade premiership with Violet Town as a youngster.
"He's playing fantastic footy and is living and working in Benalla which will be beneficial as well," Price said.
"Josh knows some of Violet Town's players and wanted to come back and play with them."

Originally from the Goulburn Valley league, Mellington joined Albury in 2015 through his ties with former Benalla teammate Daniel Maher.
He kicked 113 goals in 2015 and 99 in 2016 after missing the opening six matches of the home and away series due to suspension.
Mellington shapes as a formidable goalkicking force in the Kyabram competition, particularly with former AFL player Jared Brennan committing to play in 2021.
"Jared is right to play providing the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted," Price said.
"There are some good teams in the Kyabram league but we think we have recruited some quality players who will make the club very competitive."
