Tintaldra's Mark and Honor Auchinleck have shared their experience in the Upper Murray fires to help the CFA promote Fire Action Week.
Mr Auchinleck detailed in a video shared by the CFA that all communication had been lost when they decided to leave the property.
Farm manager Paul Nugent kept the couple informed.
"He warned us by telephone that we might lose the property because the fire had spotted on either side of it, and then he rang us with the good news about 20 minutes later saying the fire had passed through and the house and the garden was alright," he said.
The 1200-acre property had been protected by soaker hoses laid out on and around the house.
A solar pump and 110,000-litre tank had also been installed years prior.
"This fire certainly demonstrated the unpredictability of fire, and nobody knew where it was going to pop up next," Mrs Auchinleck said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"When we realised it was going to be a really bad fire season, we started moving the flammable things inside, cutting dead, flammable dead timber of trees ... generally tidying up the garden.
"Everything we did last year needs to be done again this year."
