In an open letter to constituents Mr Tilley said accepting you need help was "challenging and humbling" but he hopes his openness might inspire other men to seek help for their physical and mental health.
Mr Tilley said his return to work would be guided by medical advice.
"Like many of us in North East Victoria, last summer's fires and the challenges posed by COVID have combined to take a massive toll on my wellbeing," he wrote.
"I didn't heed the warning signs and soldiered on.
"I am not special in this area, I'm feeling well short of 100% and have sought help from my doctor to remedy my physical and mental health."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Mr Tilley reassured constituents while he was seeking treatment and recovering, they were still being 'strongly' represented in parliament.
"I belong to a strong Coalition team," he said.
"I also have a very strong local electorate office team who will continue to support you during these difficult times.
"I thank you for your patience whilst I seek treatment to get myself fit to return to the office and the parliament."
Mr Tilley said despite the publicity and recognition seeking help was challenging.
"I hope my statement, which was incredibly difficult to write, might inspire other men to seek help for their physical and mental health," he said.
