A 27-year-old Bright man has been arrested after police allegedly detected him driving 178km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Wangaratta Highway patrol members detected his Skoda speeding along the Great Alpine Road at Smoko.
His licence was immediately suspended while his vehicle was impounded.

The man was arrested at the scene to appeal at the Myrtleford Magistrates Court on summons for conduct endangering life, speed dangerous and associated traffic offences.
Police reminded motorists that police can now suspend licences for excessive speeds and that every police car is a moving speed check.
