But the real winner is the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre which will receive more than $170,000 thanks to the efforts of Terry Greaves and his bearded ambassadors.
Due to coronavirus restrictions in Victoria, the ball drop will be virtual with ticket holders and community members urged to follow along on the livestream on Facebook from 1.30pm.
For organiser Rob Dore, the ball drop has been much more than raising money.
"In a time like this, it was vital for us to bring communities together for this incredible cause," he said
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Everyone knows someone who has received treatment at the cancer centre and I think the most powerful thing is we have been able to bring all those small, rural communities together for something pretty special.
"Terry is going pretty well, he has been either exercising or hassling people for donations, but we wouldn't expect anything else.
"Unfortunately he has been back in Albury receiving cancer treatment which wasn't the original plan but he is so grateful for the generosity of the North East and Border community - we all are."
For bearded ambassador, and Albury builder, Will Blomeley, growing a beard and raising money for Terry's cause has brought him closer to the community.
"You just never realise what people are going through around you," he said.
"When I heard about Terry's battle and the cause I jumped on board.
"Everyone has been so generous and I have been able to raise just over $4000 which is way more than I expected.
"Just through family and friends, and some complete strangers, the donations just kept coming in and to see the total for the whole ball drop is just incredible."
Mr Dore said the idea of the Big Bearded Ball Drop is something that would be a "great legacy" if others wanted to carry it on.
"That idea is something other community groups could take up next year and raise some money that way," he said.
