On Monday Border Christian College Year 7 and 8 students packed bags with essential items for girls and women experiencing poverty and hardship on the border.
Border Christian College bible studies teacher Emily Littlewood said the lesson in service really hit home for the teenagers.
"The Share the Dignity campaign was new to a lot of them," she said.
"They were really excited to be involved and they didn't realise there was this level of need in their own community."
Share The Dignity's 2020 It's In The Bag campaign asks people to donate pre-loved bags filled with items that will make a difference to women and girls in need such as deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, sanitary pads and tampons.
Little luxuries such as lip balm, socks and magazines can also be included.
Ms Littlewood said the whole school was involved in donating bags in good, used condition.
She said the teenagers packed about 80 bags with many donated items left over from the bushfire appeal.
"Sixty-six of the bags were going to teenagers in our community with the rest going to women," Ms Littlewood said.

Border-based Share the Dignity volunteer Rebecca O'Brien said the charity supported Border women in the lead-up to Christmas.
"I've seen firsthand just how much happiness these handbags filled with items have brought local women and girls," she said.
"They simply can't contain the joy they feel, and we've all been moved to tears watching them receive the bags.
"And little extra treats like socks and magazines have brought out so many smiles."
Among the Border charities that will receive the bags this year will be Women's Health and Wellbeing Centre, Yes Unlimited, Carevan and Centrecare.
Last year Share The Dignity donated a record 134,010 bags to those in need nationwide, bringing its three-year total to 517,918.
It also asks the public in March and August to donate pads, tampons, period underwear, incontinence pads and menstrual cups to Dignity Drives across the country.
It's In The Bag donations can be left at Bunnings stores until Sunday.
