Ivy's Bell was given little hope by punters in the $22,000 Benchmark 58 Hcp, (1600m) and started as the big price of 20/1.
The five-year-old mare won twice last preparation on rain affected going.
Jockey Adrian Layt hooked Ivy's Bell out to the middle of the track in the home straight as she powered away to score a convincing win.
Taylor said his mare failed to handle the Victorian way of going when finishing near the tail of the field at Benalla at her most recent run.
"She has had three runs in Victoria and struggled every time," Taylor said.
"But back on a nice big track with the rain affected going, she showed what she is capable of.
"She has only had four starts this preparation so I'll have to have a look at the calendar now and pick out another suitable race for her after that performance."
