One of the photos, depicting her naked from the waist down, was blown-up to A4-size and sent to her mother.
Magistrate Richard Funston expressed his disgust at the crime in Albury Local Court on Tuesday.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Well, this is a pretty filthy charge," he told the 26-year-old.
"I see a charge of this nature and I immediately think, 'go to jail'."
The woman, who had taken the photo among many others for a boyfriend during a six-month relationship - she and the accused, who had a young son, were "on-again, off-again" over nine years - was in a "sexually suggestive pose".
The message "guess who this is" was stuck to the top of the page that was sent to the woman's mother.
At the same time, the victim received a large letter in the mail. Inside was a card, the front of it carrying the message: "Tsk, tsk, tsk, with "liar, cheater, thief" inside plus a handwritten message of "you were warned".
His co-accused, previously dealt with by the court, admitted sending the photograph to the mother, while the man sent the card to his partner, then 25.
The Lavington man, who cannot be identified, had taken four screenshots of the images of her "in various naked positions around the house" then texted these to his own phone.
He did this while the victim was sleeping.
He pleaded guilty to a domestic violence-related charge of intentionally distributing an intimate image without consent.
Mr Funston was scathing of the man when he tried to claim in court that he had "accidentally" sent the images.
"Do you seriously think the court has come down in the last shower?" he said.
"Wow, what a way to treat a person who you're in a relationship with.
"If you do anything like this again you will be locked up."
The man was placed on a 12-month community corrections order.
