The Albury premiership player thought his AFL career was over before receiving a phone call from list manager Jason McCartney on Thursday morning.
"It was awesome news after Wednesday night as I was starting to really contemplate what I would be doing with myself next year," Sproule said.
"I didn't think there was much hope, I was pretty flat this morning.
"I got the call from Jase (Jason Macartney) though and I'm over the moon.
"It's like I've been drafted for the first time again."
Sproule, 22, has spent the past four seasons on the Giants' rookie list and made his senior debut in round 22 against the Western Bulldogs in 2019.
I'm probably the fittest I've been as I have a real base behind me

The key forward will start pre-season training on Friday.
"I've gone from not thinking I'm getting picked up to training in less than 24 hours," he said.
"It's been a real roller-coaster."
Sproule believes he will start pre-season training in better shape than previous years after being based on the Border for several months.
"I've been training with Albury a lot and they work bloody hard with Luke Daly and Anthony Miles running it,' he said.
"I'm probably the fittest I've been as I have a real base behind me.
"Last year I went back in pretty shocking nick so it will be good this time.
"Pat Scammell and Aaron West have been doing the fitness stuff at Albury and they have everyone looking really good."
