SUPERMARKET owner Bob Mathews has been lauded for supporting his community at the official launch of a mural depicting the history of East Albury.

The artwork was largely done in November with a final touch of anti-graffiti coating added recently.
It begins with a Wiradjuri painting, by artist Tamara Murray that relates to the role of Mungabareena Reserve as a meeting place and then takes viewers across black and white photographs to a painting of basketball titan Lauren Jackson.
That is the work of graphic designer Lisa Goff, who curated the project after being engaged by Bob Mathews.

At the launch on Friday, member for Farrer Sussan Ley praised Mr Mathews and his wife Geraldine and said it was "something only" he "could have come up with".
East Albury-based mayor Kevin Mack said the mural reflected the style of Mr Mathews.
"It's all about colour and pizzazz," Cr Mack said.
"It's our story from Wiradjuri right through to more recent times, it's truly magnificent," Albury MP Justin Clancy said.
Jackson is in the WNBL bubble in Townsville and her parents Gary and Maree represented her and were delighted with the recognition.
"It's just nice to have something of your daughter in one of the main streets of Albury, it's very visible," Mr Jackson said.
East Albury Cricket Club life member Richard Lee also attended after having provided an image of a team from the 1950s at the Albury Sportsground.
