NSW's state-wide safety operation, which began at midnight on Thursday and will continue until midnight on January 3, is aimed at keeping travellers safe. Double demerits apply in NSW.

Victoria's Operation Roadwise runs from December 18 until January 6. During the 2019 Operation Roadwise, 17 people died on the road.
Victoria Police's Libby Murphy said it would be devastating to think someone might never make it to Christmas lunch or their holiday away due to recklessness or inattention on the road.
